Have you got what it takes to do the Rickshaw Run?

Crazy. Foolhardy. Utter madness. The Rickshaw Run is all that and more. But it’s also the most fun you can have on three wheels.

Launched back in 2006 and organised by The Adventurists, the Rickshaw Run concept is deceptively simple.

You and a couple of mates squash yourselves in a comically unsuitable vehicle – the mighty three-wheeled tuk-tuk – and point it at the Himalayan mountains, the length of India, or most of Sri Lanka.

The rules are just as straightforward: no back up, no set route and no guarantee you’ll make it all the way to the finish line.

It’s like a halfway house between an independent road trip and an organised tour.

There’s a start and finish line, a bunch of parties, test driving and rickshaw ‘pimping’ days plus the vehicle paperwork and insurance is taken care of.

But once you’re on the road it’s all down to you where you go and where you stay. And if you get stuck, you have to get yourself un-stuck!

“I felt like I’d been chewed up and shat back out. But it’s the best way to see and experience parts of India you never normally would…”

Abigail Brady, describing her Rickshaw Run experience.

Too bad I wasn’t aware of this. Something tells me this would be an epic journey exactly for me! Love the photos.

Any of The Adventurist journeys are worth doing, although, I must admit, the Rickshaw Run looks the most fun. And most colourful!
